| Welcome to John Chaski Antiques |
I specialize in period furniture and decorative arts, silver, fine art, folk art, painted furniture, stoneware, redware, and a variety of other antiques, with an emphasis on objects from Delaware and the Eastern Shore including Delaware silver, Pyle and Wyeth school paintings, samplers, country and formal furniture, clocks, and any objects that can be identified to a known artisan. |
 |
My goal is to offer objects of quality and integrity that are more than ordinary.
It is easy to become wrapped up in the marketplace and to make buys based solely on price. Price-buying is increasingly easy and it is common to buy useable antiques at very low prices. These objects are often unimaginative or mere relics of great things that are plagued by major restorations and condition problems.
Whether they deal, collect, study, or just look, the enthusiasm among people interested in antiques and fine art is the foremost factor that has led me to pursue this field of work.
Buying and selling objects, though necessary, is of secondary importance to the relationships formed around these transactions. |
|
I plan to be in this business for decades.
Whenever I price an item, I consider what I would say if the buyer decided to sell it and asked me to make an offer. Everything I sell is guaranteed to be as described. My reputation is my livelihood.
As a young dealer, the lack of young antiques collectors is of particular interest to me.
Despite my training in “traditional” antiques, I strive to make period antiques relevant to young people such as myself and to demonstrate their “usefulness”, their greenness, and their aesthetic adaptability to a variety of interiors. I am willing to offer very generous terms to young collectors that will enable them to acquire antiques in a way that makes sense financially. |
