Figured Maple Chest on Chest

15,500.00

Hailing from Eastern Connecticut or Rhode Island, this chest opens a window on the practices of 18th Century cabinetmaking.  Is every piece as unique and special as my future honor roll student?  Sure.  Did the shops occasionally run out of matching hardware halfway through a piece and start substituting another pattern, then use escutcheon backplates instead of solid ones?  You bet.  One waist molding is replaced and there is a small lip repair on one of the drawers in the lower case.  The condition is otherwise exceptional including the dry, lived with finish.  Pine secondary, circa 1770.
